What’s in a Name?

Hmm, I wonder why we have a picture of cheese at the top of this newsletter?

“What’s in a name? That which we call a rose, by any other name would smell as sweet.” What? I don’t think so Juliette! Names are very, very important. Find how we are righting the naming wrongs in this week’s newsletter. But first, a few announcements then on to the usual silliness.

We added a “new” item to our store — CheeseShare! Why did I put “new” in quotes? Because we had CheeseShare in the past but our last two suppliers went out of business. Seems like the cheese racket is fraught with peril. Anyway, this CheeseShare comes from Shepard’s Way Farm — a family owned, artisanal sheep milk cheese producer. Their award-winning cheese is crafted by hand in small batches. This ain’t your Kraft American Singles! So if you like really good cheese, consider buying CheeseShare!

We are still taking orders for VeggieShares, WinterShares, EggShares (get them before they are all gone), FlowerShares, CoffeeShares, FruitShares, ‘ShroomShares and plant six-packs (hey farmer Chris,. Why isn’t the “plant six packs” some kind of “share” like everything else you sell?)

Now on to this week’s “news”.

Farm News

To further our quest to Make Agriculture Great Again we’ve decided we needed to rename a few things here on the farm. The goal of course, is that by renaming all these things, EggShares prices will drop, which is why we were put in charge of the farm in the first place. And if a name is just a name as Juliette implies, why are egg prices so high? So without further ado, here are the new, egg-price-dropping names.

Henceforth, the following vegetables/herbs/flowers will be renamed as follows:

French Breakfast radishes will now be known as American Breakfast radishes

Greek oregano will now be known as American oregano

New England Pie pumpkins will now be known as New America Pie pumpkins

Tokyo Long White onions will now be known as Washington DC Long White onions

Orient Express eggplants will now be known as American Express eggplants (Don’t leave home without it!)

Iceland poppies will now be known as This Land is Your Land poppies

Mars celeriac will now be known as Earth celeriac

Yukon Gold potatoes will now be known as The 51st State Gold potatoes

And finally, Caribbean Red habanero peppers will now be know as Gulf of America Red, White and Blue habanero peppers.

There are a lot of other names we need to revisit like Little Shanghai bok choy and Thai basil but we’ll have to save that for another time. Next week we will look at how to drill, baby, drill (hmm, I guess we’d first have to purchase a seed drill). We’ve got to get those EggShare prices down somehow! Until then, do not hesitate to send in questions, comments, new name suggestions, or anything else you think I would enjoy.
