Time Out

Salamander

We are still taking back the pint size clam shells. Just pint size please. No other clam shells.

We are still looking for help and will probably continue to look for help until we find it. Help us by joining us in looking for help and when you find some send them our way!

Farm News

I was going to talk today about how not having enough labor affects the farm but I don’t have time. So instead I’ll just mention a couple of things.

The cantaloupes seem to be ripening quite fast. We had one that was a bit mushy yesterday but it was incredibly sweet. I don’t have any great advice on how to tell when the melons are ready but it seems the ones with ribs need a bit of green in the rib for it to be perfect. All orange seems to be past its prime though our sample size is only two so not a very good experiment. I apologize if you get a bad melon. Unfortunately the line between a great melon and a bad melon is quite narrow. That’s why you can only find ok melons at the grocery store. We are also near the end of the cantaloupes so this problem will resolve itself shortly.

Speaking of the end, the squash still haven’t reached it so more squash for you. And just to remind you, you cannot use “too much squash” as an excuse not to rejoin. That is one of the unwritten terms of the contract you agreed to when you signed up. (Not really but don’t assume every year you will be inundated with squash. This is an extra special year).

This last planting of corn is doing great! We had some this weekend. I hope you enjoy it as much as we did!

The beans are going strong. So are the cherry tomatoes. If anyone is interested in helping harvest either of these please let me know! We are already losing many of the cherries due to them being over-ripe.

That is all I have time for.

A much smaller salamander

What will we have this week?

Lots of tomatoes, lots of beans, lots of cucumbers, melons, watermelons, lots of corn, onions, some tomatillos, cherry tomatoes, squash/zucchini (the vegetable that keeps on giving), some broccoli, a few cauliflower, cabbage, a few eggplants, and who knows what else is out there. I’m hoping this is the peak of the season! We are completely out of harvest and storage bins as well as cooler and storage space.

It is a mushroom and flower week.

Recipe of the Week

Hopefully you can find something using the Google machine.

Joke of the Week

Q: What did the yellow bean say to the green bean?
A: You’re looking a little under the weather…
