Newsworthy

Sorry for the late newsletter. Too much to do.

We could use a hand processing the onions. All it take is time, and some onion rubbing/peeling. So if you like to sit around and do practically nothing yet still feel like you got a lot accomplished, this is the job for you! Once we get the onions out of the way we will start harvesting the winter squash. And if we can get it done this week I think there will be a lot of really nice winter squash. We just need to harvest them before something goes wrong. Let me know if you can help out with the onions!

Still taking back pint size clamshell containers.

I’m looking at Saturday, October 4th for garlic planting this year. We typically start at 1:00 and go until it is complete. Mark it on your calendar — and use the pencil font so it can be erased if we need to reschedule. Let me know if you can make it!

What will we have this week?

Last week for cukes. Seems like the plants died this weekend. I haven’t seen as sudden a collapse as this before but I think — and I could be mistaken — that we have had enough cucumber for the season so not a big loss. We are still harvesting a lot of tomatoes and cherry tomatoes. Plus we have some dark red norland potatoes. Of course there are onions and garlic. You should be getting onions and garlic every week from now on so plan to either eat them quickly or find a place to store them to eat later. We also have beans, some okra, some tomatillos, peppers, a few cabbages, some Napa cabbages, and all the things I am forgetting.

It is a ‘Shroom and Flower week.

Farm News

Since I am already out of time I figured I would just include a couple of “news” items related to our farm. This first one is a story on MPR about the beekeeper who keeps bees here on our property. We’ll be selling her honey later this month once she figures out how much she has.

Next is a video starring yours truly. It is a “sampler” of a potential series of episodes highlighting people, businesses and ideas that can help save the planet. It is hosted by Dr. Lori Myren-Manbeck, author of the book “We Can Save the World, Mars Can Wait”. I think I should have gotten a hair stylist.

I guess that will be all for now. If you have any questions, comments, suggestions, news items involving the farm or anything else you’d like to share please send it my way!

Joke of the Week

What did the caterpillar say to the butterfly?

I just feel you’ve really changed.
