January Newsletter

SnowmanSorry for little to no communication this off-season.  Haven’t had much to talk about.  But now I do!

We have most of our pricing in place for 2014.  The good news is we are not raising prices for VeggieShares.  Our costs have risen slightly but we feel we have a few yield improvements that can offset these costs.  So we will absorb the increases and keep our prices steady for 2014.

We are still taking orders for 2014.  Please help spread the word.  If you refer someone to our farm have them put your name in the “Where did you hear about us?” line of the order form and we will credit your account $25.  Might be the easiest money you  ever made!

We are offering one new item this season: SeafoodShare.  Much like SalmonShare from last year, SeafoodShare is a monthly assortment of wild, ecologically harvested seafood from Sitka Alaska.  In addition to the King, Sockeye and Coho salmon from last season, SeafoodShare also includes Pacific Cod, Ling Cod, Black Cod, Halibut, Spot Prawns and Salmon burgers.  It runs for five months from June through October with one delivery/pick-up each month.  We have two share sizes: small and large (clever names,eh?)  The small SeafoodShare includes three pounds of assorted seafood each month.  A large SeafoodShare includes five pounds.  This is a great add-on to our veggies for us land-locked Midwesterners.

Never fear you salmon enthusiast.  SalmonShare returns for 2013.  For those who love salmon but not other seafood we are still offering SalmonShare with a few changes.  SalmonShare has four pick-ups/deliveries, one each month from July through October.  It also includes salmon burgers.  The total weight for the small SalmonShare is now 15 pounds.  The large SalmonShare stays at 25 pounds.

We are also taking orders for all our other add-on shares: Fruit, Meat, Cheese, Eggs, Coffee, Flowers, and Winter.  The order form has the pricing (except for MeatShare).  The three and five product discounts are again available this season!

An opportunity for our younger members is through our partnership with Budding Farmers.  The Budding Farmers program teaches children (Budding Farmers) about the fruits and vegetables we grow.  It is perfect for Pre-K through Elementary aged children.  For 8 weeks during the season, you will receive take home nutrition information, fun facts, growing guides, science projects, recipes, creative activities, and more with your CSA share.  This program is offered directly through Budding Farmers; we are only partners/hosts.  See our web site for more details or to purchase visit Budding Farmers web site.

Anything you want us to grow this year?  Now is the time to let us know.  We will be putting together our seed order this month.  Speak now or forever hold your peace.

You can still get in on Winter FruitShare.  It has been delicious again this season.  Pick-up is available here at the farm or at our St. Paul drop site.  Contact me if you’d like to join and I will figure out the prorated price.

That is all for now.  I will try to think of more interesting things for the next newsletter.
