Happy New Year?

Garlic January 2021

I’m really not sure what the appropriate punctuation is for this new year…

A lot less happening here on the farm than in the rest of the world these days. I’ll give you the brief rundown after I remind those who haven’t yet signed up to do so sooner rather than later. We’ve had a great response so far but would always prefer to be sold out before we start buying supplies later this month. For existing customers all you need to do is send in a deposit of $100 either through PayPal (using my email address chris@freshearthfarms.com) or the good old post office. You can also go through our online store to order your share. New members should use the online store. If you want to pay using small unmarked bills contact me and we can schedule a time for the drop here at the farm.

Farm News

Not much news on the farm this time of year. Our garlic is right on schedule as you can see from the picture above. The deer continue to wander through looking for us to plant something for them to eat. The insect pests are in their usual winter slumber. And I’m sure the gophers are chewing their way through our underground irrigation pipe. On a different front, surprisingly we have not yet received our usual mailbox busting supply of seed catalogs. I’m not sure why every supplier seems late this year. Quite odd. Maybe a postal thing. Hopefully they arrive soon.

In the mean time, this is a great opportunity to let me know if there is something specific you would like us to grow. We are always on the lookout for interesting and delicious things. We can’t grow everything but we can try to grow most things. So send in your requests.

Oh, our new equipment arrived on Tuesday — mulch layer/bed shaper and water wheel planter. Some assembly is required. I haven’t decided yet if I should assemble it now or wait until it is warmer this Spring. Maybe the next warm, sunny day.

That’s pretty much it. Sorry to be so boring but maybe we all appreciate a little less excitement these days. As always, feel free to send in questions, comments, suggestions, jokes, brain teasers or anything else to pass the time. Questions would be great ’cause then I could answer them in a future newsletter.
