Gleaning Get Together

food shelfJust a quick note to remind everyone about our food shelf gleaning get together this Saturday from 1:00 to 4:00 with potluck and bonfire to follow.  Come out, get some fresh air and bank a whole bunch of good karma.  In past seasons we harvested around 2000 lbs of produce; our record was just over 2200 pounds.  Lets see if we can top it!

This season we will give the produce to Loaves and Fishes — a nonprofit meal program in Minnesota, serving hot meals to those in need — as well as Valley Outreach — a Stillwater-based organization that helps neighbors in need of food, clothing, emergency financial assistance, and other support while respecting their individual dignity and offering them encouragement and hope.  We can certainly spread the wealth to other groups feeding the less-fortunate; please contact me to arrange delivery to these other organizations.

The weather should be perfect with cool sunshine to keep the produce fresh and the helpers warm!  Bring work gloves; rain suits and mud boots for washing veggies; and a dish to share for the potluck.  Kids are more than welcome and are typically the best spud finders.

We have lots of potatoes, lots of broccoli, some cauliflower, some Napa cabbage, salad mix and maybe a few other odds and ends.  Many hands make light work! Please let me know if you plan to help out.  I want to make sure we have enough people to make this a success!

And thank you for your support this season!
