When is it going to rain? I need the time to do office work – and write the newsletter.
Since it isn’t raining I will have to just get to the important stuff.
Garlic Scape Cream Cheese
Our friends at Castle Rock Dairy are making a special run of cream cheese just for members of Fresh Earth Farms! Using some of the wonderful garlic scapes you have been enjoying, Castle Rock will create a unique, Fresh Earth Farms Garlic Scape Cream Cheese. You do not need to be a CheeseShare customer to order this cream cheese. It will be delivered to the farm with the July 20th cheese delivery. We will deliver it to the drop sites with your vegetables. If you would like to order this one of a kind product please let us know by Monday July 11th. Price is $5.00 for an 8 oz. tub. This is a limited time offer! Order as many as you like. Let me know if you have any questions!
FruitShare
This week’s fruit is a mixed box containing blueberries, nectarines, grapes, pluots and valencia oranges. We pick it up on Wednesday and will be available at your next pick-up. If you want it earlier you can come out to the farm during our regular hours (M, W and F 3:30-6:30 pm or Th 9:30-11:30 am). The next FruitShare will be delicious, organic cherries! If you would like to order cherries a la carte please let me know!
Important FruitShare announcement!
We will keep your fruit in our cooler for one week from the day we pick it up unless you contact us, then we can store it until the next FruitShare (two weeks). Fruit is perishable and our cooler space is limited. Please be sure to pick up your fruit in a timely manner. Thank you!
MeatShare
There are a few people left who have not yet picked up their MeatShare. Please do so at your next pick-up.
CheeseShare
We have CheeseShare this week. Pick-up your cheese when you pick-up your veggies!
An interesting announcement
A couple food blogs written by members of our farm might be of interest to the rest of our members. Could be another good resource for recipes and uses for Fresh Earth Farms produce! Check them out!!!

This week’s Veggies
This week we will have lettuce, bok choi, kohlrabi, summer squash, green garlic, garlic scapes, some snap peas, some snow peas (both are nearing their end unfortunately), some beets, swiss chard, some basil, kale and BROCCOLI! And maybe some other things that escape me right now. A quick note on the broccoli (spoiler alert for those who are squeamish!). We found ONE cabbage worm floating in the wash tank. This implies there could be more. Wash you broccoli thoroughly! Soaking it in water for 15 minutes or more does the trick. No need to use salt water. This is the price you pay for eating fresh from the farm organic. (Actually we rarely give out broccoli with caterpillars but I don’t want people to be surprised if one slips past our quality control).
Speaking of pests
We hadn’t seen many of the white butterflies that create the cabbage worms until this past week or so. Since they haven’t been around and we haven’t seen much damage, we haven’t sprayed for them yet. But starting today we will give the plants a bit of bacteria to reduce the number of live worms (actually caterpillars). The bacteria we use is an all natural bacteria (and let’s hope there are no scientists out there making GMO bacteria!) and is labeled for organic production. It is harmless to humans and washes off quickly. Just thought you might want to know.
I think that is all for now. If you have any questions do not hesitate to contact me.
