First week of the season went pretty well. Only a couple issues that were quickly resolved. Of course you may be keeping something from us. If you had any problems please let us know. We can’t fix what we don’t know is broken.
Speaking of broken, our Allis G tractor is being quite temperamental lately. Of course this is the time of year we use it the most. But alas, it is not to be. After spending a half day on it today we got it to run quite well. Then after lunch, when I was ready to get to work in the fields, it decided it didn’t want to work anymore. Not good. So back to the shop for more repairs. I have a new carburetor float on order. Should be here in a couple days. Hope this fixes the problem.
FruitShare will be here on Wednesday. For those who ordered FruitShare or blueberries a la carte, please plan to pick-up your blueberries at your usual drop site. The next FruitShare will be delicious Cherries. You can order cherries a la carte. Just let me know how many you want (boxes of cherries, not individual cherries).
For the on-farm members: Please try to park on the property, not on the road. There is generally sufficient parking though on occasion it may get crowded. The road can be dangerous with the speed of the cars driving by. Parked cars block the view of those trying to exit the farm as well. So please at least attempt to park on our property. If there are no spots you can always drive around the circle and park on the street.
If you can remember, please return the EggShare egg cartons. They can be reused. Only return egg cartons from EggShare please.
We’ll also take back blueberry clam shells. We use them for cherry tomatoes delivered in the boxes.
This week’s produce: snap peas, snow peas, broccoli, kohlrabi, kale, lettuce, green onions, garlic scapes, basil, bok choi, radishes, summer squash/zucchini, and maybe beets. The last three items may be in limited supply initially. One note for delivery boxes: We do not put every item into the delivery box. We have found in the past that members would rather have enough of fewer items than one of every item. It makes meal preparation easier. We keep track of what goes in the delivery boxes so they get some of everything over the course of the season. On-farm members have access to every item but they too do not receive every item every week – unless they purchase more than four shares (sometimes there are four or five choices in a category). So even though we mention what is available each week it is not a guarantee you will receive it that week. However you will receive it soon barring unforeseen circumstances.
There are a few more recipes on the web site, a pesto using kale and another yummy dressing for all the salads you will be eating the next few weeks. We are always looking for additional recipes, especially those that use seasonal vegetables.
As always, let us know if you have any questions and we will let you know if we have any answers.
