Food Shelf

food shelfWe here at Fresh Earth Farms take our holidays seriously.  And one of the most serious holidays is Halloween.  This year — as we do every year — we did our best to scare the heck out of the children by giving out Brussels sprouts.  It’s odd how we failed to have any trick-or-treaters stop by again this year…

First and foremost I’d like to thank everyone who was able to come out to harvest the leftover produce for the food shelf.  Without your assistance the produce would have rotted, froze or otherwise become useless in the field.  We had somewhere in the neighborhood of 30 or so people here; I was too busy to count to get a more accurate number.  We harvested and washed literally a ton of produce.  Yep.  2000 pounds.  Some of it was used as payment for the hard work so we ended up taking 1880 pounds to Valley Outreach food shelf in Stillwater.  Valley Outreach serves on average 400 Washington County families every month.  The ton of produce we donated will go a long way to make these families healthier and happier this Thanksgiving.  Thank you all – even those unable to help out this past weekend – for your support.  It is your farm that donated the produce.

We are still taking orders for winter FruitShare.  I’d love to see more of you take advantage of this wonderful offering.  Fourteen weeks of certified organic fruit.  Absolutely delish!  The fruit can be picked up here at the farm or at our drop site near Dale and I-94.  Please let me know if you’d like to purchase fruit.  The first pick-up is only a couple weeks away and payment plans are available.

Keep sending in your renewals for 2014!

And keep referring other healthy eaters to the farm!
