I really need to get a newsletter out and with the recent rains today is as good of a day as any. First the announcements:
The veggie season will start – barring unforeseen circumstances – on June 18th. This is a Wednesday and yes we start our week on Wednesdays. Why? Because that is the calendar that vegetables follow. Their day of rest is Tuesday as we all know. So our week goes from Wednesday to Tuesday. You don’t really need to know this except for the first and last week of the season. We’re not sure what we will have ready by then but we have to start sometime.
I will send out an email to each member in the next week or so (hopefully tomorrow with the forecast of continued rain) with directions on how to pick-up your produce at your pick-up location. It will also include your pick-up location and pick-up time. Contact me if you don’t receive it by Friday and we can check the email address we have on file.
MeatShare starts on June 6th. You can pick-up MeatShare here at the farm at 5:00 that afternoon or by appointment anytime I am around. To make an appointment, send me an email with a couple possible times and I will get back to you with which of those times work. After this month’s MeatShare the pick-up times will be anytime we are open for veggie pick-up (M, W and F from 3:30 to 6:30 or Th from 9:30 to 11:30 am) or by appointment. We will keep your MeatShare frozen until you pick it up.
FruitShare, CheeseShare and EggShare will start the week of June 25th.
SeafoodShare and SalmonShare most likely will start that week as well though we haven’t finalized the schedule yet.
CoffeeShare will start the first week of VeggieShare.
No idea when FlowerShare will start. It all depends on the flowers.

Budding Farmers starts in July. There is still time to sign-up! Get your kids loving good food while they are still young.
We still have some shares available. We have 13 new members due to your referrals – that’s more than have found us through Google and Facebook combined. Now that is true social media! If you haven’t met your “one new member per year” quota yet please keep spreading the word! Our referral bonus of a $25 credit still applies.
You can still order any of our shares except for Seafood and Salmon. Let me know via email if you’d like to add fruit, cheese, meat, coffee, eggs, flowers or winter shares and I will add them to your account. You can follow up with payment – no need to fill out an order form.
Speaking of payment, if you haven’t paid for your shares yet or set-up a payment plan please send in the amount due as soon as possible. If you don’t know how much you owe please ask and I can let you know.
We have eggs for sale!
Farm News
Wow, that is a lot of announcements. Doesn’t leave much room for other things. So I’ll just recap what has been happening on the farm this past week or so.
We’ve been working on the ark hoping to get that project complete before the floods overtake the Earth. I’ve also been gathering plants two-by-two to take on the ark. This project should be completed by the end of the week.
Speaking of rain, anyone remember the movie “A River Runs Through It”? I’m in negotiations to have the sequel filmed here this spring.
This past week also saw a dramatic change here on the farm. I’ve gone from warm, relaxing after-farm showers to cool and refreshing after-farm showers. This might have something to do with the 80+ degree temps. No need to let the water warm up prior to hopping in!
We’ve cleared out the greenhouse of plants. On a related note, we are almost out of space for plants on the farm. It is surprising how much more room the plants take up on the farm vs. in the greenhouse.
A bunch of old friends from previous seasons returned to the farm this past week. Flea beetles, squash bugs and Colorado potato beetles all made their appearance. I’m hoping they get the hint this year and not overstay their welcome as they have in previous seasons. They are the drunken uncles, sullen nephews and drama-queen nieces of the veggie world.
Not often do you see Brad Pitt and a Colorado potato beetle in the same newsletter.
What vegetable did Noah leave off the ark?
A leek.
