It’s the End of the Season…

I’m farmer Chris and I approve this message.

I hope everyone had a great Halloween.  Again this year we had no trick-or-treaters.  They seem to have stopped coming a number of years ago when we decided to give out handfuls of Brussels sprouts.  Odd.

Just in case anyone is confused, the season is over.  There are no more weeks of produce.  With that said, thank you all for joining the farm this season.  We appreciate your support!

We are taking orders for 2019.  I’ve extended the lock-in period for rejoining next year since I don’t have pricing information for our inputs (seeds, fertilizer, etc.) yet and don’t want to prevent people from joining.  So, if you want to join you can lock in this year’s price for next season’s produce by sending in a $100 deposit or by ordering your share from our online farmstand.  Tell our friends, neighbors, etc.  And thanks to all who have already joined!

I should also mention we sell winter FruitShare all year.  If you like fruit this is a great way to get delicious, organic fruit all winter long.  It comes approximately every two weeks (though from now until the end of the year there are a few holidays that get in the way) and is available for pick-up here at the farm, at St. Paul’s Monastery on Century Road near Larpentuer Ave, and at a drop site near Dale and 94 in St. Paul.  You can order winter FruitShare from our online farmstand.  It starts Wednesday, November 7th.  We can prorate the price if you start after November 7th.

Farm News

There is not a lot of farm news these days.  We’re just cleaning up and putting stuff away.

I felt this season was just like every other season in that it was completely different than any before.  Who still has nightmares about summer squash?  I certainly do.  The tractors seemed to need far more attention than usual.  Ever notice that tractors break only when you need them?  They can sit around for weeks and not break but as soon as you get on and start using them — POW — something goes wrong.

On the positive side all the workers we had this summer had worked here before!  No rookies.  I don’t think that has ever happened before.  Because of their experience we didn’t have to do much training — always a plus.

Over the next month or two I’ll be receiving the seed catalogs for 2019.  If there is anything you’d like us to grow now is the time to let us know.  We’re willing to give just about anything a try.  Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn’t.

I guess I’m out of things to mention so I will leave you with a joke I came up with a while ago:

What is the secret ingredient in dolphin pancakes?

All porpoise flour.

As always, feel free to send in comments, jokes, suggestions, puzzlers, etc.
