This season it has been especially difficult to find and retain good help. Though we’ve been blessed to have some returning employees, filling vacancies has been especially difficult. I guess this is one of the downsides of a robust economy. So we are looking for another person or three to help us through the rest of the season. We can structure the job so that most of the time is spent in the coolness of the wash area basically washing and packing produce; no need to get out into the hot sun unless you want to. We can also structure the job so that multiple people perform the work, say one person on Mondays, a different person on Wednesdays and yet another person on Fridays. Our preference would be for someone(s) who could work until the end of October but we’ll take whatever help we can get. The bottom line is we are in desperate need of help and will work with whatever schedule works for those who can help out. Please send potential candidates my way!
With that said, unfortunately some things may slip until we get another person on-board. You may find the produce is not as clean as you’d like or expect. I may not be as responsive as I’d like to be. Updates to websites and social media will be more sporadic. And I’m sure there are unknown unknowns that will crop up as we try to keep the ship upright. One change is that weekly newsletters will be posted on Sundays instead of Tuesdays. It could confuse some people since the information will be for the week starting the following Wednesday but hopefully it isn’t too confusing. The forecast for veggie availability will be even closer to the weather forecasts we’ve all come to expect — that is to say not all that accurate. So please bare with us until we can get another rower or three on-board. And again, if you know anyone please send them our way!
Along the same lines, on Tuesday, weather permitting, we will be digging the garlic. This is a job where many hands make light work. It is mostly outside work and requires some flexibility and a bit of strength. If anyone is interested in helping out please do not hesitate. And if we don’t finish it up on Tuesday we will schedule something for this coming weekend — probably Saturday afternoon but it will be weather dependent. Stay tuned.
What will we have next week? Sweet corn! Fennel! Some cherry tomatoes. Maybe a tomato or two. Beets, cabbage, cauliflower, cucumbers, a ton of eggplant, some broccoli, a half-ton of summer squash, onions, green onions, okra, kohlrabi, maybe green peppers, maybe chard, maybe kale (though not likely since it could use a bit of a break). Oh and green beans!
No meat, cheese, coffee, ice cream, seafood, salmon, fruit or eggs.
Of course there is bread.
That is all for now. Again, let me know if you would like to work here, volunteer here or come out on Tuesday to dig garlic. We can use all the help we can get.
