I’m not sure how many of you caught the news last night but if not I figured I would share with you this amazing happenstance. As you might know, President Obama was in town for some type of event, which is totally irrelevant to this discussion. While he was here he visited a number of local businesses. While traveling through the Twin Cities he apparently got lost. Not many people know this. It isn’t something the White House would be proud of, but you know it happens. You think you need to turn right but should have turned left. Or the car you were following runs through the yellow light leaving you stuck behind the red light. Or you get cut off by a large semi that then slows down and you lose sight of your caravan. Anyway, like most men he refused to stop for directions – until it was too late. When he realized he wasn’t going to figure it out himself he decided to get out of the car and look for someone to point him in the right direction.
As this was happening to him I was out checking on the recently transplanted lettuce. Nothing new here. Something I do quite often the few days following a transplant. But on this particular occasion who did I see walking across the field but the President of the United States of America! Quite a shock. I mean sure we’ve seen deer and pheasants wander by or an occasional turkey (hey, keep the jokes to yourselves; this is not a political blog) but never a sitting President (or a former President for that matter). But I guess one shouldn’t dismiss the possibility whenever he is in town.
Anyway, since he didn’t look like he was dressed to help out, I gave him directions and some green garlic and sent him on his way. It was a short visit but frankly I had work to do and couldn’t afford to take time out for idle chit-chat.
Announcements
The Veggie Season will start on Wednesday June, 13th. Unlike the rest of the world, our weekly calendar starts on Wednesday and ends on Tuesday. That’s just the way plants like it so we conform to their schedule. I will be sending everyone an email or two about pick-up instructions for their pick-up location. If you don’t receive it by Monday please let me know.
The first FruitShare will be that week. CheeseShare will start the week after. CoffeeShare will be included with your first pick-up. The first MeatShare already happened. FlowerShare won’t start for a couple more weeks. If you would like to add any of these please let me know ASAP. I think these are all great additions to the veggies and provide another way to support small (mostly local) farms. For those shares that have already started we can pro-rate the price to reflect the missed pick-up.
We still have veggie shares available. Keep sending people our way. We appreciate your support!
We are still taking orders for Minnesota Nice Spice spice blends. They are $7.00 for a 4 oz jar. See their web site for descriptions and let me know what you’d like to purchase.
Payment for all shares was due in June unless you made other arrangements. If you don’t know what you owe please let me know and I can send you an account status. Also if you are unsure whether you ordered a specific product let me know as well. I would hate to have someone think they ordered fruit only to find out otherwise.
That is all for now. I’ll let you know when Mitt Romney stops by.
