We continue to take orders for the 2025 season. We’ve had pretty good response so far. Yay! So if you plan to rejoin might as well get it over with now. All you need to do is send in a $100 deposit or order through our online store. Let me know if you have any questions.
For those people in Woodbury who find it difficult to get out here every week we now have a Woodbury drop site. Please see our drop site map for the location.
Farm News
People frequently ask me near the end of the season, “What do you do all winter?” I usually don’t have a very good answer. Sitting around and watching old Seinfeld reruns seems a bit lame. So this year I’m doing something that I think will greatly affect the farm — at least for the next four years. I am creating a new department. The Department of Pharming Efficiency or DOPE.
My first task in creating DOPE is to assign three people to head the department. Why three? Because it is one more than two and two just didn’t seem like enough. We could have done four people which is also greater than two but that seemed inefficient and efficiency is in the name. So three it is. Wow, I never realized making efficiency is so easy. I’ve already checked off the first item on my incredibly efficient to do list. In fact, as I now look at the list, my role in creating DOPE is complete. Talk about efficient!
You are probably asking, what is the role of DOPE. Great question. I think the first step for DOPE is to create a large document explaining the role of DOPE. There is nothing more efficient than a lengthy efficiency document. The longer the document the more efficiency we can achieve, right? But now that I think about it, before we can create this efficiency document we have to form a committee to define the goals of this efficiency document. And, I just realized how brilliant my idea of having three heads of DOPE. With three people heading the department there will be no ties when it comes to deciding things. How efficient is that?
Ok, so create a committee. Generate a document. Execute on the document. A typical three step program. Nice and efficient.
To get things started I figured I could submit some of my ideas to the committee since I am the Chief Farming Officer. First idea: find areas of the farm that need cutting. Off the top of my head I would say the grass along the sides of the driveway frequently needs to be cut. Put that on the list. Next broccoli. We’re always chopping broccoli. We can cut that. This past season we had a LOT of arugula. Cut. Cut. Cut. And don’t forget the Department of Redundancy Department. Seems redundant. Look at that, four things right of the top! That’s the sweet sweet smell of efficiency. Who would have thought being efficient would take so little time?
Anyway, I have all winter to finish working on DOPE so there is really no reason to put all this effort into it right now, though would starting now be more efficient? Ooh, add “start now” to the list! Wait, shouldn’t an efficient list be getting shorter? So let’s take that last one off the list and instead put off working on DOPE until after the holidays. So instead of working on DOPE I think I’ll just write this newsletter and then I can get back to more old Seinfeld episodes. Efficiency can wait for another day.
As always, do not hesitate to send in questions, comments, share orders, items to put on the efficiency list, and anything else you think would be useful to have during the winter months.
